Suggested updates

Release:

• Publicize new SN Mini on Twitter (John)
• Post about new SN Mini on SciAct channels (Pat)

Constellations button:

• When active, pause "play" functionality of time slider (else it keeps bringing you back to M101 FOV
• Zoom out to a large enough FOV that you can see the constellations
• Constellation icon should change color when focused like other buttons

M101 image handling:

• When in "play" mode, don't automatically repoint camera to the M101 image (so if user moves the view around in the middle of playing the sequence, the camera shouldn't keep jerking back to the M101 image).
• Clear out non-M101 images from gallery
• Label images so it's clear which ones are pre- and post- SN
• At the start of the timeline (before the 5/15 tick), an image is already shown. Once you get to the 5/15 tick, the image changes. Is the new image 5/15 or 5/16? In other words, shouldn't every image have a distinct date tick? As of now, the first image doesn't correspond to a particular date. It seems like maybe the images are 1 tick behind the date ticks. (So the 5/15 image should appear when you cross the 5/15 tick, and the 5/16 image should appear when you cross the 5/16 tick, and so forth.) #119
• 6/21 image shows up when time slider passes 6/11, which is confusing. Image shouldn't update until you get to the correct date tick.
• If you view a gallery image, then "play" the MicroObservatory sequence, the gallery image goes away, but the thumbnail button stays in an "on" state, so to view the image again, you have to click the button off, then on again.

Light curve:

• Connecting line should correspond to displayed data points
• y-axis & label should have 100% opacity and possibly have a thicker line weight (maybe match the weight of the timeline) and have a larger font
• y-axis should be relabeled "Supernova Brightness"
• Try making y-axis label horizontal for readability. (We can change it back to vertical if we hate it).
• Add an x-axis arrow with a "Time" label
• Hide light curve on a first pass through the images, then pop up option to display lightcurve.
• Check with Mary & Harry - should we adjust position of div so y-axis actually connects to the timeline as its x-axis? (Pat)
• Make button to show graph available from the beginning
• When the time slider loops back to the beginning, it should start on 5/15. (Right now it loops to 5/16).

Controls:

• Turn off functionality where the app tries to figure out your location and use it
• Allow user to toggle whether to show pointer arrow or not.

Design:

• Make sure selected colors meet accessibility contrast requirements (Pat)
• Allow arrow to have rotation (Jon)
• Give all buttons that can have "on/off" state the same behavior and propagate that to old Minis (Jon)

Content:

• Update text (John)
• Make a video (John)
• Host video on YouTube and link from there (so it doesn't load so slowly and so we can track viewing numbers)
• Discovery gallery image is taking a long time to load for Pat. (It's currently hosted at astrometry.net and that isn't being loaded immediately. We should host them in our own assets folder.)

Mobile issues:

• Tapping on any of the buttons brings up tooltip and it won't go away until you turn function "off" (so "Watch the supernova change over time!" tooltip blocks the graph and image - change to "press and hold" to activate tool tips.
• Constellation icon is sizing badly on mobile (and Safari)
• M101 image needs to be placed higher up in interface, so the lighcurve doesn't cover the image.

Housekeeping:

• Remove vestigial code (around location stuff) that we aren't actually using here. (Jon)
• Bundle in Highway font so users don't need to have it installed (Jon)
• Change folder/workspace name from m101-supernova to pinwheel-supernova (to de-jargonify the url)
