We have just successfully tested an Artsdata to iCal prototype for loading Artsdata events into a calendar on the CAPACOA test website. (Hooray!) This was one step in Artsdata's project of populating a calendar with events featuring Indigenous performers. Another step in this project was creating an unbroken subclass relationship between specific ethnic group instances and the item "Indigenous peoples in Canada" in Wikidata, so that we would be able to run queries in Artsdata like "show all events by artists with an ethnic group property that is a subclass of Indigenous peoples in Canada".
Currently, the ethnic group values from Wikidata are not loaded as additionalType for artists in Artsdata, which means that when we query for events by Indigenous people, these events do not show up, even when the unbroken subclass relationship exists in Wikidata.
How should we change this to reconcile Wikidata's vocabulary with Artsdata so that we can query events by Indigenous artists in Artsdata? Should we add "additionalType" to artist items in Artsdata?
Relatedly, (musical) bands which are considered Indigenous in Wikidata currently use the property "has characteristic" instead of ethnic group to describe their Indigeneity, since they are not instances of human, and therefore cannot be described with the property ethnic group. Could we load "has characteristic" as an additionalType for organization items in Artsdata while loading ethnic group as an additionalType for artist items?
