Delete sameAs

Background

Artsdata is primarily a secondary database: it contains mostly data points that are defined in secondary sources and that we consequently cannot edit. Among notable exceptions are sameAs links: whether through the "minter" feature, the "mint using Wikidata" feature or the batch reconciliation tool, Artsdata data stewards manually enter data points indicating that a given record in source XYZ is the same entity as a given Artsdata entity in the core graph.

While it is easy for an Artsdata data steward to add a new sameAs link, there is currently no way for them to delete or update a sameAs link.

Issue

The vast majority of reconciliation decision made by Artsdata data stewards are accurate and don't need to be edited. However, there are circumstances where a sameAs link needs to be deleted or updated:

• A reconciliation error was made (for example, a wrong reconciliation of name string);
• The reconciliation was made with the best available entity at the time, but a new entity becomes available and is a better match;
• A Wikidata item that is the object of a merge, and the Artsdata sameAs points to a redirected URI.

Consequence: These wrong sameAs impact the overall data quality of Artsdata and they may also interfere with certain workflows.

Desired enhancement

We would like a new Nebula feature allowing a registered user to delete a sameAs link. It could be a simple "delete" button displayed only to logged in users within the sameAs element in the Nebula interface.

While an "update" might also be nice to have, if a new sameAs link needs to be added further to the deletion, it can easily be done using either the "minter" or "mint using Wikidata" feature. A delete feature is really all that we need.

Here are examples of items with sameAs links to delete, and with which we could test the new feature:

This venue record has two sameAs links to two different Artsdata IDs. One of them needs to be deleted for autominting to continue.
