The mission of the data-privacy-stack organization is to steward the Presidio open source project by providing governance, coordination, and decision-making structures that support its continued development, adoption, and sustainability as a privacy-focused technical foundation.
The data-privacy-stack organization exists to:
- Provide transparent, consensus-based, and vendor-neutral governance for the Presidio project
- Coordinate the technical direction and long-term sustainability of Presidio
- Enable collaboration among contributors, maintainers, and participating organizations
- Support the development and maintenance of privacy-preserving data detection and protection capabilities within the Presidio project
- Facilitate the responsible evolution of Presidio through community participation and maintainership
The scope of this mission is limited to governance of the core Presidio project and does not extend to the governance of external tools, integrations, or related sub-projects unless explicitly admitted through amendment to this Charter.
The data-privacy-stack organization is responsible for the governance of the Presidio project.
This includes:
- Oversight of technical direction and roadmap
- Maintainer appointment and removal
- Governance policy development and enforcement
- Coordination of contributions to the Presidio project
The organization does not govern any trademark or registered intellectual property associated with the Presidio project. No trademark for the Presidio name currently exists under this organization. The Presidio project is an independent open-source project and is not affiliated with any other product, company, or entity using the Presidio name.
The data-privacy-stack organization shall operate under a Technical Steering Committee (TSC) responsible for governance decisions affecting the Presidio project.
The TSC is responsible for:
- Coordinating technical direction of the Presidio project
- Resolving disputes escalated from project maintainers
- Managing project-level governance alignment
- Making organization-level governance decisions when consensus cannot be reached at the project level
Decisions within the data-privacy-stack organization shall be made using a consensus-based approach. Consensus shall be defined as general agreement among participating TSC members, with reasonable efforts made to address outstanding objections. If consensus cannot be reached, decisions may be resolved by a majority vote of the TSC.
The Presidio project shall maintain lightweight, consensus-based governance among project maintainers. Decisions that cannot be resolved at the project level may be escalated to the TSC.
This Charter may be amended through consensus of the TSC. If consensus cannot be reached, amendments may be approved through a majority vote of the TSC.
