The Chicago letter is good but doesn't mention the Civilian Police Accountability Council (CPAC), a proposed ordinance that would place police oversight in the hands of an elected council and is currently one of the high-level demands being called for by local organizers.

I also urge the City Council to enact the Civilian Police Accountability Council (CPAC), which would give police oversight power to a democratically-elected council rather than the police themselves. CPAC would allow the community to hold police accountable, overturn policies that allow police to engage in unlawful behavior with impunity, and decide how CPD is funded, all crucial steps in ending corruption, violence and structural racism within CPD.
