Dashboard is where you find all you need to know to never miss a thing- well, university things that is (we still do not provide coach-surfing services :P )
You will find four main things in the Dashboard page:
-
Schedule Summary: All your course appointments for the day, and also personal appointments that you add to your Schedule.
-
Courses: Here you can find all the courses you are registered in, and notifications for homework that you have been assigned by the professor of the course.
-
Connect: Our personal favourite, the place to find all your posts, to easily keep track of the discussion generated, or answers received by the community.
-
News feed: All the activity in your courses.
With all these, it makes sense to have it as the homepage, right?
The explore page is a catalogue of all the courses offered by the university. The panel in your left will serve you to find exactly the courses you need (presumed that the university offers them of course).
Once you visit a course, if registrations are open you can register for them. You can also see the course description, course reviews, the posts in the course forum, and wikis of the course. (Hint from someone who cares about you: You may want to do that before you register for a course that is not mandatory for you).
When you do register for the course, you will unleash much more functionality that you can make use of to procrastinate less (or more).
We all know how important having a schedule is, don't we? Here, you automatically get all the course appointments for your classes once you register for the course. However, unlike other calendars seen around, in this one you can also add your own things. We assure you that in your Schedule Summary in the Dashboard, you will indiscriminately see both your course and your personal appointments.
Go and play around with it, knock yourself out with new things to add to your schedule. Be busy :P .
ps: It is not perfect yet, so don't shy to report bugs and suggest improvements.
Professors and Students can extend the interaction beyond lecture halls, organizing all that constitutes a course in an easily accessible, secure platform, augmenting class experience. Among the initial first release features, after continuous discussions with faculty and students, the following are provided by connect.academy:
Course Information: A page dedicated to summarize all relevant information about the course made easily editable by the professor of that course.
Homework assignment and submission: Professors can easily assign homework for all of their courses and with the same comfort see all homework submissions by their students for all of their courses. This makes things easier for students as well. At one click they can visit the course page, one extra click they see their homework and one last click to submit it.
Course materials: All course materials can be found in the course page. Professors can choose to associate these course materials with the topics in the syllabus, making the allocation and use of these materials easy and intuitive.
Course forums: This is the main platform for discussion, anything from homework/course material clarification to intense discussions on course topics. One could ask questions, give answers while rating the quality of each contribution.
Course Wiki-s: Each course is also going to have its own student-led content. Wikis are indisputably a form of successful collaborative learning. If Wikipedia, relying on people of all educational background and stages has ameliorated in terms of content and references, a community of university users with a vested interest in a topic would do much better, much quicker. Furthermore, wikis can be used to make tutorials, explain concepts and whatever your imagination dictates you.
Schedule: You can add lectures, appointments, homeworks to your profile, but also to the schedules of all the students taking your courses.
Connect.academy is running at full speed, new features are being developed and the existing ones made better. We are looking forward to making the platform better and for that we definitely need your help.
There are a great deal of things you can do with connect. First, very "non-intuitive", you can connect with your courses. Once you get there here is a glimpse of what you can see:
Course Information: A page dedicated to summarize all relevant information about the course made easily editable by the professor of that course. Course Ratings and Reviews from students who took the course and all you need to make an informed decision whether that course is right for you to take.
Homework assignment and submission: Professors can easily assign homework for all of their courses and with the same comfort see all homework submissions by their students for all of their courses. This makes things easier for students as well. At one click they can visit the course page, one extra click they see their homework and one last click to submit it. Homework can be found associated with topics in the syllabus.
Course materials: All course materials can be found in the course page. Professors can choose to associate these course materials with the topics in the syllabus, making the allocation and use of these materials easy and intuitive. You only loose stuff if you want to (or the professor does not upload it - but then you never had it right?).
Schedule: You can add lectures, appointments, homeworks to your profile. You can add your own personal appointments and have it integrated within the same calendar. A summary of your day will appear in the Dashboard

PS: If you took time to read "If you are a professor" post, you will realize there is not much of a difference. That is because in connect.academy we are all equal, of course some are more equal than others (like old chap G.Orwell would say).
