Hello from Oku

Hi! Just found this project from Lobsters (side note: could I get an invite for an account?) and I think it's super cool.
This resembles a project of mine called Oku, more specifically the OkuNet feature. I'll keep reading about Rostra, and I hope we can find collab potential here?

@emmyoh Oh, wow. A whole browser. IMO, that is increasing the scope far beyond what I have time and ambitions for. I don't really have enough time and ambitions for Rostra already, and I'm trying to keep it as small as possible.

My plan is to focus only on synchronization engine, and expose a simple web UI, that can be launched locally or hosted as a web app, and used in any browser. Later, I can expose a more standard http api, and let people build their own apps if so they desire.

As a long time Pinboard user I already consider/plan to add social link bookmarking feature to Rostra.

I'll keep following Rostra's progress, because it looks super promising. I think it'd be cool to discuss how we've implemented certain features in the future with our respective projects, because I've been quite worried about optimisation with respect to scaling. I don't think any other P2P/F2F social networks really exist since the death of SSB.

since the death of SSB

As I mention in https://github.com/dpc/rostra/blob/master/docs/comparison.md#vs-secure-scuttlebutt , I was using SSB and somewhat excited about it in the past. Is it really dead? Do you know anything about the reasons?

I am very sceptical w.r.t ability to outcompete centralized solutions (even well funded and respected other centralized solutions have problems competing with estabilished centralized solutions). I treat Rostra more as a technical exercise. So no wonder that SSB fizzled out. But it also had some big design issues and AFAIK was never able to find solutions to things like multi-device support (which I believe Rostra can handle easily).
