From a conversation I had with @jabrown893 at lunch today - there are some other highly useful variants on spring forces we should add to the library, including a 'regularized boundary tethering' force which scales linearly from zero to full strength between two parallel planes. More of these may be available in the (not publicly available) TAVR repository later.
