as of now the dms greeter supports (or at least is documented to support) the same compositors as dms (which are all fully featured compositors that can comprise the better part of a whole DE just by themselves). this means that the system has to start two large compositors in a row (one for the greeter and one for the user) that AFAIK can't just be reused.
that being said, kiosk compositors are drastically smaller (just compare the package sizes for cage and niri or even something like klatka, that's sadly not stable yet), which should allow for a faster (and probably more secure) start.
some greeters (e.g. gtkgreet) already support such a thing.
the way kiosk greeters tend to start the chosen app is by executing it themselves (I.E.
cage -s -- gtkgreet), so i assume a script that starts the greeter as a normal app can work when no advanced compositor features are required.would like to know if this is easy to implement
cheers
