The new very cool OVF front end is written in TypeScript.

Joe should learn how the code works, and that means getting familar with the tools.

Joe should:

• Be able to explain what Node, Npm, Angular, and Typescript all are how they interact.
• Do typescript tutorial
• Have completed the Angular 'tour of heroes' tutorial
• Work out why the laptop isn't playing nice with Node
• Work out why your main account isn't working well.
• Gone over the OVF front end code and been able to explain what each file does.
• trying this link for putting angular apps on gh-pages (needs admin)

• Moved most of the way throught the tour of heros tutorial completing stages 1 to 5. Only 6 left.
• Had a bit of a Google dive working out which technologies have which responsibilities, and I think I got to a reasonable stage of understanding how, for example, the MEAN stack fits together.
• Found a few more questions like:

Running into problems.

• I deleted mock-heroes.ts when it said "This file replaces mock-heroes.ts, which is now safe to delete." - but unfortauntely there are files that rely on it.
• "Add a HeroService.getHero() method to make that request:" but there already is a getHero() method...

55 minutes later I have finally completed the tutorial (I didn't do the last css adding). Have pushed to github at https://github.com/joereddington/angular-toh/

Understand what is going on with the constantly having to reinstall the angular enviroment

For this one I need to got to the pull requests and start looking at them properly.

Desktop (osx)

this turned out to be an issues with firefox extensions

• So I clone a fresh ovfplayer
• Use npm ci to update and then
• npm start to get it running.
• It freezes on the require in a private browsing window.
• So I find an earlier version I tested, which appears to be MVP release ovfplayer#87.
• I checkout c57093fc16cdb99551a26e1e3b382731988424c1 (which is the right, I think, commit)
• That one works.
• I checkout 1fdaa18b5f8bf9d8976e14826aa91bd630bc846d, which is from eQualityTime/ovfplayer@1fdaa18
  That has the same problem:
  
• That's particularly annoying because I wrote on the pull request that it was working. It's possible I screwed up. It could be:
  * My enviroment has changed and now represents a special case
  * I screwed up during the review and reviewed something else (or did so on my laptop...)
• Okay, next action is to try that review on laptop, and to also move a bit forward checking on desktop...
• Next one for desktop is eQualityTime/ovfplayer@b8a7572 (which I reviewed on the mac)
• Stuck in the require again...

Okay, so we've got evidence of multiple versions of ovfplayer working in the past, and none of the m now. Due to this:

On the laptop (ubuntu)

• git clone
• npm install (because npm ci NOT on this version
• npm start (on develop)
• Error TS1005 ';' expected.
  * Might be the npm package - it's pretty old...
• Checked out 1fdaa18b5f8bf9d8976e14826aa91bd630bc846d
• Same error.

Okay, at the end of the session I have

• Completed the Tour of Heros
• Found out why my builds weren't wokring
• Reviewed the pull requests
• Reviewed all the open issues quickly

Which is a pretty solid set for a morning.
