Our team has been using the Eclipse Theia platform for some time, and we are currently planning our transition to Eclipse Theia Cloud.
We are familiar with the defined release cycle for the Theia platform, but we wanted to clarify if Theia Cloud follows a similar fixed cadence. Specifically, we noticed that the latest release (v1.20) uses Keycloak version 24, which is now out of community support.
Could the maintainers or the community clarify:
Does Eclipse Theia Cloud have a defined release schedule (e.g., quarterly or monthly)?
When is the next release expected?
Is there any reason why Eclipse Theia cloud updated to Keycloak version 26.4.5 and not the latest one i.e 26.7.3?
Thank you for your help and for the great work on the platform
Release schedule. We don't have a fixed schedule like Theia's monthly releases. Our README says "every three months", and that's still the target, but in practice recent cycles have been closer to six months. Our main development capacity currently goes into Theia Core and Theia AI.
Next release. We're targeting 1.3.0 for around October, after the initial OpenShift support PRs are merged. We'll also do a dependency update pass as part of that release.
Keycloak version. Keycloak is an external prerequisite that we talk to via standard OIDC, so users are free to run whichever version they want and need to update it themselves. The version you saw is only what our Terraform-based getting-started/test setup installs. That setup was stuck on an older version for a while because the Bitnami chart we used was deprecated and we had to migrate to the official Keycloak Operator. 26.4.5 was simply the current version when we started that work. There's no technical blocker to newer versions that we know of.
