Description
I am genuinely not sure if this is a duplicate, I tried looking for an existing issue but didn't find any.
It would be really nice if blur was available as a plugin for editing software.
I honestly have no clue how difficult, or even possible, this would be, but being able to just apply it as an effect to a track in blender, premiere, or any other app would be great.
It's not just about convenience, but also about greatly reducing render times and quality loss.
Say we have a clip of a csgo ace, that would usually be ~60 seconds long, and would take on average 2-6 hours to process.
This processing also leads to quality loss due to compression.
Now say we wanted certain effects applied before blur, e.g. some cc.
We would have to first add the cc, render that, add blur to it, and then render once again as the final video.
That's at the very least 3 lossy renders, which is not great to say the least.
It would be 4 in my case, since i re-encode all my clips to save a bit of space.
Another benefit of this approach would be processing only the necessary parts.
You usually don't use all 60 seconds of that clip, so cutting it before applying blur would greatly reduce the blur processing time, in some cases from 3 hours down to 1, if not less.
The only major issue I can see with this is that blur currently processes the entire clip at once, I don't know how doable that is as a track effect in any of the apps I mentioned above.
I don't think it's impossible as RSMB exists, and I remember using it in premiere and possibly vegas, although I have no clue how either implementation works.
Another minor issue that comes to mind is the realtime playback, which is obviously not possible, but simply not applying the effect till the actual render would be a perfectly fine approach for me.
So yeah, while this would be truly nice to have, I understand if it's impossible.
Looking forward to hearing what you think of this.
