Improvement: migrate to using chezmoi

Chezmoi does most things I already do, just nicer and faster:

1. templates (to handle small differences between machines)
2. password manager support (to store your secrets securely)
3. importing files from archives (great for shell and editor plugins)
4. full file encryption (using gpg or age)
5. running scripts (to handle everything else)

The password manager support seems nice. It integrates with 1Password!
