Hello Rainer,

The Markdown plugin is difficult to maintain because the SmartyPants library is hopelessly outdated and the source code is very extensive. SmartyPants was written for Smarty 2.X. No chance. I don't expect the Markdown plugin to remain changed over time. That's why I use the Parsedown plugin.

If you can reproduce the problem with the Parsedown plugin, we can reopen the issue.

I disagree with this quick "Not Planned" Closing in many issues. Might have low priority for the whole project, but closing such issues because You do not plan to handle / fix this issud other interested Devs will become discouraged to have a look on these issues.
