^ symbol not supported in table formatting in markdown .

when I write command "^" for row span as described by doxygen (http://www.stack.nl/~dimitri/doxygen/manual/markdown.html#markdown_extra)
but with this makefile, I didn't get row merging in HTML output.

I also tried this table command with >h files & apply this source files to doxygen on windows. I found it is perfectly running & gave proper row merging in HTML output.

Please suggest what will be the possible solution
