Suggestions for More Biome Density and Environmental Hazards #49

I see a lot of potential in this mod. Similar to Galosphere, it adds three cave biomes and builds most of its content around them. I really like this formula; it works well, gives the mod a strong identity, and seems to make development more focused without spreading content in too many different directions.

I think the mod still has a lot of room to grow and become denser, so I'd like to share a few suggestions in good faith. I'd genuinely love to see this mod continue to evolve.

Molten Cavern

At the moment, this biome is visually beautiful, but it doesn't quite give me the feeling of a truly hostile environment. To me, a volcanic biome should make the player pay attention to every step, creating a constant sense of tension and caution while exploring.

Not necessarily through mobs, but through the terrain itself. More magma, more lava scattered across the ground, larger lava lakes, smoke, and lavafalls coming from the ceiling could make navigation feel more dangerous and deliberate.

The geysers already present in the biome also seem to have a lot of potential. Perhaps they could interact with the player in some way or become environmental hazards, helping the biome feel more alive and unpredictable.

The vanilla Nether's Basalt Deltas or the Scorching Caves from Regions Unexplored could be interesting sources of inspiration. The goal would be to combine the beauty of extreme heat with the tension and caution of exploring a place where the environment itself demands respect.

Glowshroom Forest

I think it has a lot of potential. From what I understand, the idea is to create a bioluminescent fungal forest, so I imagine something much denser and more forest-like.

Right now, it feels more like an open field inside a cave than a true underground forest. More vegetation, more fungi, and more natural features could help fill the space and strengthen the atmosphere.

I also like the idea of a biome that looks beautiful and inviting at first glance, but hides dangers beneath the surface. That contrast could become one of its most interesting characteristics.

Perhaps some mushrooms or plants could release poisonous spores when touched by the player, acting as small environmental hazards scattered throughout the biome. This would help give the area more personality without relying on additional mobs.

Another idea would be to slightly reduce the brightness of the glowing mushrooms. This could make the lighting feel more subtle and atmospheric. At the same time, denser vegetation could prevent players from easily seeing the far side of the cave, making the biome feel more enclosed and much closer to the feeling of an actual forest.

A smaller visual suggestion: perhaps the small mushrooms would fit Minecraft's art style better if they used 2D models, since both vanilla mushrooms and those from many other mods follow that approach. The current 3D models could still be available through an optional resource pack, or vice versa.

Environmental Hazards

Personally, I don't think the focus needs to be on adding more mobs. What interests me more are unique interactions tied directly to the biomes themselves.

For example:

  • Giving more purpose and impact to the existing geysers in Molten Cavern.
  • Mushrooms or plants that release poisonous spores when touched in Glowshroom Forest.
  • Thorny vines or other hazardous plants in Sandy Catacombs.

Small environmental hazards, whether they are blocks, plants, or terrain features, can greatly increase the weight of moving through an area and help each biome develop its own identity without depending entirely on new creatures.

In any case, these are just a few ideas. I already like the direction the mod is taking and I'm excited to see how it develops in the future.
