Project description: Tang and colleagues (2023; https://www.nature.com/articles/s41593-023-01304-9#) showed a method for reconstructing speech from participants listening to narrative stories in the fMRI scanner. They used GPT-2 to generate potential candidate reconstructions and scored them based on the measured BOLD activity using an encoding model. I will be attempting to replicate the functionality and test out improvements in the pipeline. I will be using Sam Nastase's EncLing tutorial (https://github.com/snastase/encling-tutorial) as a starting point.
