Configurable option to record pre/post minutes before/after each hour?

I'm planning on running two instances of this. One doing raw hour by hour logs. But also, to ensure presenters get a full show to cut/merge (they can get lazy and start late/early), could the software have an option to add 'x' mins before and after the hour to the recording? I know that might mean the software would have to technically record two files at the same time during that 5 min pre/post top of the hour period.

Does this make sense?

Interesting thought! I can see the benefits of a pre-roll/post-roll feature for the reasons you described.

One thing that might need tackling is how one describes the recording system that you'd be creating. Would it still be hourly with a 5-min pre-roll and 5-min post roll (maybe like $ chronicle --pre-roll 5m --post-roll 5m), or would it be a 1h10m recording offset by -5m? Probably the former, so as to allow consistency across the period when two files are recording at once.

The ncurses UI would also need some work, simply because at the moment, the updateRecordingToPath method in screen.h only accepts a single string as an argument. You'd also need the ability to accept an array of strings so as to be able to display both files that are being recorded at the same time.

I'm quite looking forward to thinking more about this and getting it off the ground, but it's not likely to be a v0.1.2 feature, because it will require a non-trivial reworking of how Chronicle keeps track of active audio streams. v0.1.2 at the moment is centred around getting the basic features solid and most obvious bugs removed.

It's definitely the former idea. You still have the concept of per-hour (exactly 60 minute) logs but add the 5 minutes before and after that hour. Similar to what you can ask a Sky PVR to do to combat early/late running programs.

Not expecting this to be a feature very soon as it's pretty complex!
