Re-write to work as an additional layer on top of any backend

In the README, you say:

"Raziel could be re-written to work as an additional layer on top of other backends. So other backends (like Mongo) could be used."

I like the sound of this, ie. incorporating encryption at a non-backend-specific level.

How likely/easy would this be?

I did not investigate the amount of changes needed to do this. Out of the top of my head, I think this would be a re-write of the project.

Things to consider:

• make Hiera backend stack-able (another use-case could be caching in Hiera)
• re-think the front-end, as it currently writes .yaml files
• re-think the concept how visibilty/encryption is scoped
