Pocketmaps fails to get satnav location data on Android 15?

Hi,

Downloaded and installed Pocketmaps v4.0 from F-droid ( https://f-droid.org/en/packages/com.junjunguo.pocketmaps/ ) but couldn't get PocketsMaps to set initial position as per satnav data. Briefly some error message pops up saying that location data is not available or something like that. As far as I can tell, all proper permission had been granted and the Location service was enabled prior to running Pocketmaps.

I have a similar issue with Navit 0.5.6, perhaps there had been a Location service API change that affected both apps?

Just to make sure that this is not a phone issue, I installed and ran the GPS Cockpit app ( https://f-droid.org/en/packages/org.woheller69.gpscockpit/ ) and the app was able to get satnav location data and correctly show location and speed. So it looks like the problem is with PocketMaps and not the phone.

Currently I use Pocketmaps 4.0 on Linageos21 (=Android14) without this issue.
When I have the time, I will upgrade to 22 (Android15) and retest.

What exactly is this "setnav data"?
GPS data that you get by your mobile phone?
And what hardware do you use (phone type)?
And do you have another Android15 phone for testing this issue?

1. By "satnav" data I mean satellite navigation data, that is, location data from GPS/Glonass/Beidu/Galileo/etc satellite navigation systems, whatever the phone supports. Modern phones usually support several of them.

2. I tried Pocketmaps with Motorola Moto G Power 2024 running Android 15. I don't have another Android 15 phone to test Pocketmaps with. Instead I tried another app, GPS Cockpit ( https://f-droid.org/en/packages/org.woheller69.gpscockpit/ ) and GPS Cockpit was able to get the satnav location data and correctly show location and speed when running on this phone.

3. I also tried OrganicMaps on this phone and it works fine provided that the "Use precise location" permission is granted. In the Settings > Location > Location services I have Location accuracy, WiFi scanning and Bluetooth scanning all set to OFF so am not sure how granting the "Use precise location" permission would help, but it does. It appears that the app now needs to have this permission granted for the Location service to work properly, even if only GNSS satellites are used. The GPS Cockpit app also requires the Use precise location permission to be enabled to work properly.

The problem is that with the two apps where the Location service works properly for me (see above), the Use precise location permission shows up as a separate option in the respective Location permission settings for those apps (similar to this pic: https://developer.android.com/static/codelabs/approximate-location/img/a9553249c3e2b90c_856.jpeg ).

However, this Use precise location option is absent in PocketMaps so there is no way to enable it.
