localization?

Although not a new idea (see Jaap Meijers work) a great execution for the less technical user!

Is there a way to create local versions, with translations of the quotes in other languages? Preferably Dutch, my native language ;) but others might want their own languages ofcourse.

Great idea! This is certainly possible. It'll probably involve:

• A language selection option at the captive portal stage
• A litclock_annotated.csv file with quotes in the selected language
• An nsfw_keywords.txt file to filter any cuss words in that langauge
• Image set of quotes (in selected language), book, and author - I've been considering moving away from pregenerated images for quotes for a while, so this step may get eliminated.

I'll post here if I make progress on this; will certainly need help with the litclock_annotated.csv and nsfw_keywords.txt files for the language you are keen on (Dutch).

Thanks, I offer my help with spanish. Some time ago I vibe coded something similar as well and one thing interesting was that I ruled our machine learning translations and aimed for real text in my language coming from local authors and released commercial translations only.

I'm in the process of putting the scaffolding in place for supporting languages other than English. In the meanwhile, if you can put together a quotes file in another language that'll be great. When I was building this, there was a substantial chunk of my time spent trying to clean up quotes, duplicates, remove some that were too long, find quotes for times where none previously existed, etc. So unless a ready-to-use quote file exists in another language, that's going to be some effort for whosoever takes it on. Happy to help along with the process or if you need clarifications on the quotes file's format. @iroQuai @taladro

Hi, Im still importing texts into a vibecoded version of something similar and have already processed around 10.000 epubs and still can´t past over 61% of the needed minutes phrases. I haven't find quote collection, I'm working with full books. Can share when completed.

I did some searching and came across https://github.com/cdmoro/literature-clock I haven't checked the license yet, but assuming it's permissive, there are quotes in different languages there. He does mention that he's used Google Translate, but it's a starting point. You may not want to use it at all, but since I came across it I thought I'd share it and see if it's useful.

I've rolled out the latent design and code for rendering quotes without pre-generating images for the quotes. Apart from other things, this will help with localization since now a different language will not require generation of images for its quotes.

I'll activate the direct quote render in the next release (probably in the coming week) and then put together more scaffolding for selecting and changing a language.
