Plugin: "auto bracket complete feature" / not working

Hello,
i've activated the plugin but when i type an ( nothing happens.
I would expect, the ) should inserted automaticly.

I've de-/activated it and restarted xed. But it did not help.
I'm using Linux Mint.

What can i do?

What happens if you are editing a file xed it knows about? I.e. a Makefile, or a .c file. It doesn't do it for plain text files.

Yes thats it!
I use xed for txt notes and would like to use that feature.
