Latest (n some version before) have another visual glitches on my unihertz titan 2. And ya remove selection frame wich not very fine.

Thanks for reporting this, and sorry for the late reply. This looks related to the crop overlay, not the camera preview itself.

I found and fixed one coordinate bug that could shift the crop overlay when the scanner view is not laid out at the parent origin, which may happen on unusual screen/layout configurations like the Titan 2. The fix will be in the next release.

If the issue still happens after that, please try disabling the crop handle in settings and let me know whether the dark overlay disappears. That would confirm this is still in the crop overlay path.

Having the same problem (first seen in 1.73.1). Currently using 1.74.0 from play store and still having it.
Starting the app I see the "buggy" screen similar to the screenshot of the original poster - no zooming tool and other buttons. After switching the profile via "..." most of the cases the buggy screen is "repaired".
Btw. scanning on the "buggy" screen somehow, but the following display of the scanned code is also broken. Normally I have the trash bin icon on top right, which is then not available. The scanned code is also not saved in the history.
After the described profile switching, the result screen is ok just like before and also the item is listed in scan history.

Edit: Just tested your idea of disabling the crop handle (is it "Ausschnitt verkleinern anzeigen"?), but didn't help. Also the settings list is incomplete if I have the "buggy" screen. It only lists the first two settings, the rest is not there.

This appears to be a device-specific issue with Material Dynamic Colors, introduced in Binary Eye 1.73.1 😬 It affects multiple unrelated views and action bar items, so it is not limited to the crop overlay or preference values.

Could everyone affected please provide their exact device model and Android version? Unfortunately, I cannot reproduce this bug on any of my devices, so every bit of additional info is helpful.

Also, to confirm the cause, and maybe workaround the problem temporarily, please disable Dynamic colors under Preferences > Appearance, force-stop Binary Eye, and start it again.

Thanks everyone for the reports, and special thanks to @JPLiu for the video 👍 That's what maybe cracked it.

Here’s what I think is happening: in 1.73.0 the app's window background became a vector drawable, and I strongly suspect that vector background is what trips up the graphics driver on the affected devices. Interestingly, the reported devices appear to be a different GPU family than I have, which maybe explains why I can’t reproduce the bug.

A new version is already on its way through Google Play. Since I can't reproduce the problem on my own devices, it would be a huge help if those of you who are affected could test the next release and let me know whether it’s resolved. 🙏

Thank you for your effort on solving the problem. I just updated to 1.74.1 via Play Store but the problem still persists. However I think we are on the way. Here are my observations:

• display problem with scanning screen is still there - temporary switching profile solves the glitch
• scanning via broken screen works now, the result page shows the upper half of the screen correct for me. scanned codes from broken scanning screen are now listed in history again
• opening settings window from broken scanning screen sometimes uses the full screen height correctly, sometimes only upper half of screen - I can't say under which conditions...

@Showmaster3000 Thanks, this is really helpful! It looks like there’s another layout/measure issue since switching profiles repairs it. Could you confirm this for me: when the screen is in the broken half-height state, does rotating the device (landscape and back) also fix it?

@markusfisch It looks a bit strange. I rotate 90° each time, this bug appears in the first four rotations. Generally after the fifth or sixth rotation, the layout will be fixed.

@markusfisch screen rotation also fixes the problem after multiple times of switching portrait/landscape. Sometimes it is fixed after first rotation from portrait to landscape. if not, at least the on screen buttons for resizing scan area, zoom and flash are visible. In landscape mode, the division is left broken/right ok instead of top/bottom.
if the screen once is fixed, it stays fixed even if I rotate it again and again.

I think this was really two bugs, of which I hope to have fixed the second one with the latest version, which is 1.74.2 now. Should be available on Google Play within the next hours.

Bug still there, it works good first launch after install, closing the app and reopening breaks it.
