I think that improvements could be made on how instruments are talked to. Instead of calling on a ResourceManager instance to get a resource, it might be good to look at directly importing something like a GPIBInstrument, SerialInstrument, etc. and that way the entire PyVISA module isn't imported every single time. Time isn't necessarily an issue but it would be a good idea to quantify that.
