To be honest that doesn't answer the question. What if the app in question is loading user files ? - do we tell the users to convert all their content ? obviously not.

I have never seen anyone use APNG and animated WebP; they are not widely used. Your reasoning doesn't hold up.

I’m sorry but your view of the world doesn’t match mine. I guess it depends on your audience, for example, the feedback I’ve had is exactly that users want me to support those formats so I can extract all the frames or convert them. So let’s say 1 million people use apng, that is such a small demographic, like 0.0125% of the population, but still, 1 million people, a lot if they pay $9.99 each. That might be insignificant for you or your sphere of perception, but to me it’s significant.

What does this have to do with WinUI? APNG and Animated Webp do not have enough users, and they are not the next-generation techs that need to be promoted. APNG has been around for 22 years and has never seen widespread adoption. WebP has gained some popularity due to Google's promotion, but it's still not widely used, remaining an outdated format that only supports 8-bit and lacks HDR support.

If you truly care about animated images, you should choose AVIF and urge Windows to support AVIF in more aspects, rather than trying to get Windows to add these impractical outdated formats.

I just uploaded a test sample for APNG (WinUI3_APNG)
Unlike with WebP, I used AI to parse the file format; it saved me headaches reading the specifications and AI is a lot faster and better than me...

APNG has been added to PNGv3, so if PNGv3 is released and Windows decides to support PNGv3, then XAML should support APNG.
