Mouse pointer dissapears

Steps to reproduce:

I often experience that the mouse cursor in all linux applications dissapear completely. I don't know how to reproduce it. The only solution I've found is to run wsl.exe --shutdown.

WSL logs:

I've now restarted windows and the logs are most likely no longer showing the issue. I'll attach them next time I see the problem.

Expected behavior:

There's a mouse pointer visible.

Actual behavior:

The mouse pointer goes missing.

I have the issue with SourceGit where the mouse pointer is invisible :( So it is hard to use the program ! But wsl --shutdown solved it.
I have also tried Firefox, and while I have other issues (hamburger menus), the mouse pointer is visible there.

Me too. The mouse pointer was visible in my X11 applications earlier in the session, but for unknown reasons, it is invisible now when I hover over their application windows (e.g., xterm). I haven't yet restarted the WSL 2 VM, which will probably fix it.

I found the condition to reproduce the issue:

1. Run 'xclock' first time, the mouse pointer is all right.
2. Run gnome program like 'gedit', the mouse pointer becomes bigger.
3. Run 'xclock' again, the mouse pointer disapears.

I found that it reproduces when you open for example firefox esr inside of wsl2 and close it. No cursor immediately.
The immediate solution working for me is to execute in powershell the command below. This fixes all opened applications without the WSL2 restart:
powershell.exe -ExecutionPolicy Bypass -Command "Stop-Process -Name msrdc -Force -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue"

I have been using the left ctl - left alt - backspace restart method successfully to avoid the need to shutdown. It is suggested here that focus is important when you do this.

This command helped in my case. It looks like the issue happens after closing FireFox

Restarting the X server or restarting the Microsoft remote display client (msrdc) is hardly an answer - that's the software equivalent of switching off your computer and switching it on again. Next you will hear people saying that hitting the power button also "works".
