powerline not looking right upon installation via melpa and install of fonts

when I load the powerline default theme, it looks as I would expect it to, but once I start eval'ing (powerline-vim-theme) or (powerline-nano-theme) or (powerline-evil-theme), the status bar seems to blank out or not respond. I've attached a video of what I mean. Thank you.
