<h2 class="section-heading">Which Image Should I Download?</h2>
<p>To download the RHEL 8 ISO image at no cost at all, head over the Red Hat developer program and create an account. Fill in all the required details. Once done, proceed over to the Red Hat Login page to complete your profile by providing other details such as your local address.
When downloading Red Hat Enterprise Linux from the Customer Portal, there are multiple types of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 installation ISO images are available.</p>
<p><b> Installer </b></p>
<p> Download either the Binary DVD or Boot ISO image from the Customer Portal. Either of these can be modified using procedures in the guide; other available downloads, such as the KVM Guest Image or Supplementary DVD can not. The variant of the image (such as Server or ComputeNode) does not matter in this case; any variant can be used.

<p><li> <b>boot.iso</li></b></p>
<p>
Used to install the operating system from another source (such as a http repository of the binary files). Can also be used to enter Rescue Mode.

<p><li><b>Binary DVD</li></b> </p>
<p>The discs required to install and use Red Hat Enterprise Linux. Can also be used to enter Rescue Mode. </p>
<p><li><b>WinSync Installer</li></b></p>
<p> Windows installer file (.msi) for the WinSync application, which is used in conjunction with Red Hat Enterprise Linux to sync a Windows Server Active Directory.</p>
<p><li><b>Source DVD</li></b></p>
<p>Source code (human-readable programming language instructions) for Red Hat Enterprise Linux, provided in compliance with the GNU General Public License which Red Hat Enterprise Linux is created under. There is no documentation for the source DVDs. These can be used to compile or develop your own software based off the Red Hat version.</p>

This ISO is used for converting your Physical RHEL system to a Virtual RHEL system
<p><li><b>KVM Guest Image</li></b></p>
<p>You can use a ready RHEL KVM guest qcow2 image, as these images are configured with cloud-init and must take advantage of ec2-compatible metadata services for provisioning SSH keys in order to function properly. For more information see the Openstack Platform Guide

<p>Hardware compatibility is particularly important if you have an older system or a system that you built yourself. Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.9 should be compatible with most hardware in systems that were factory built within the last two years.</p>

<p>I don't know where you are on your programming journey or which language(s) you are interested in but many computer science departments are quickly learning what the community has known for a while, that Python is a fantastic language for beginners and power users alike. Your basic Python tools are already installed on any Linux. </p>
<p>But if you really just want to learn programming, then for the sake of security, please do it on a more generic Linux. My personal preference is to run Red Hat but that could be anything. Then install Red Hat as a virtual machine inside that using either VirtualBox . </p>
<p>Red Hat (or whatever) is where you set up your development environment and you only start the Red Hat instance when you want to explore the penetration testing tools. It's a fairly elegant solution, I think. The reason for this is because you don't want the penetration testing tools just laying around for a potential bad guy (or girl) to leverage against you. </p>
<p> For even better security and portability, you could even set up your development environment in a second virtual machine running on top of the base OS. Best Wishes !</p>
