I used sickle for my latest project. I'd like to both give you proper credit and encourage other scientists to use it as well. Creating a DOI for this repository would make this easier by 1) making the code release more official and 2) making it easier to import into citation managers.
GitHub provides a mechanism for creating DOIs for repositories via Zenodo (directions). This would make it more straightforward for me and others (e.g. #12, #22) to properly cite sickle. I appreciate you considering this option.
