Umbraco 15 support

Are you planning to support Umbraco 15? I know that is properly a bigger rewrite, but we have a client project at the moment using Umbraco 15, that would like the feature, and currently its missing from Umbraco 14+ :)

To be honest, haven't even looked at it, but I suspect it might not be possible - there's a whole lot of DOM traversal shenanigans which probably won't work in the new Backoffice.

Will need to have a look at extension points in blocks and go from there n

@nathanwoulfe We are soon starting an upgrade where this package is non negotiable for the client. Before we fork and attempt to do the upgrade ourselves, are there any existing plans or WIP for a v14+ version?

@rbottema client might need to start negotiating - I'm pretty confident it is not possible to make this work in the new back office. From memory, there's no extension points for adding buttons to the block headers, and the existing dom-traversing approach won't work with shadow dom.

Global elements in 18 might solve this anyway - blocks can be removed from the grid/list, and re-added from the library.

I gave it a quick spin with Copilot, and it does seem possible to get something working via blockEditorCustomView. I have a very rough PoC here: rbottema#1. It is not pretty and definitely not ideal, especially since it leaves little room for other custom views, but it looks like a workable stopgap. What do you think?

Long term, I agree the right solution is an extension point in the action bar. I’ll open a discussion/request for that in the Umbraco repo, although I assume that won’t land in the short term. umbraco/Umbraco-CMS#22346

As an update for anyone else following, Umbraco is working on adding an extension type for block actions: umbraco/Umbraco-CMS#22459, hopefully it lands soon and gives enough extension points for us 🤞
