It seems Knossos checks against the ID of the joystick instead of looking for the GUID. For reference, FSO first checks all sticks for their GUID, then if there are multiple sticks with the same GUID, it checks the index. Knossos should use similar behavior and perhaps also check for the name of the stick.
This can be a real issue whenever the ID's of the sticks change, which can happen when there's multiple controllers and the USB controller is cranky. In some cases, the ID's change when the computer restarts or is shut down for the night.
