Numbering Sorted Items

Would it be possible to enabled / disable the ability to add numbers to the sorted items? I find that if you have a very large list of items to sort its difficult to place items in the order you wish and instead find yourself counting the item in the sorted list to place the item in the correct location

I want to clarify your request:

If you have items like [A], [B], [C], [D], are you suggesting displaying them as [1. A], [2. B], [3. C], [4. D], and when you rearrange them, they would become something like [1. C], [2. A], [3. D], [4. B]?

Thats exactly correct. The sortables are brilliant but in my case I'm using two vertical lists and these lists are sorted from the left column to the right column. The issue is that these lists can be very long and as you rearrange the list to sort, its not obvious what position that item is in unless you count it position manually. I thought I could override the issue using some CSS but without much luck. I think having it as an option to enable or disable would come in handy for those longer lists. I hope this mockup helps.

I have released v0.3.0, which includes support for CSS styling. Additionally, I have added a numbering example to the README.
