Suggestion: Observer System Redux & SOMA‑themed Opera GX Mods (UI, Sounds, Shaders, Cursors) #398

Description

@laingcoleman-creator

Opera GX currently has no mod based on Observer System Redux and no “proper” mod based on SOMA, despite both games having rich terminal interfaces, unique sound design, and strong visual identity that fit perfectly with GX Mods.

Both games already contain assets that map naturally to Opera GX’s modding features:

Why these mods make sense
Observer System Redux
The game features PC terminals, glitchy UI, Chiron branding, and neon overlays.

It includes keyboard typing sounds, terminal beeps, and ambient loops (e.g., Room 212).

The visual style (scanlines, distortion, glitch effects) fits perfectly with GX shaders.

The Opera GX logo could glitch into the Chiron logo, matching the game’s aesthetic.

SOMA
SOMA’s terminals, Omnitool UI, and WAU‑style organic distortions provide ready‑made visual themes.

The game includes underwater ambience, terminal beeps, and unique cursor animations.

The GX logo could have an underwater effect or a WAU‑corrupted variant.

SOMA’s screen effects (noise, distortion, bloom, flicker) map well to shader mods.

Why this is technically feasible
Opera GX Mods support:

Custom sounds

Custom keyboard typing sounds

Custom music/ambience loops

Custom shaders

Custom CSS/UI overlays

Custom icons

Custom animated wallpapers

Custom cursors

Both games already provide:

Terminal sound effects

Cursor animations

Screen distortion effects

Ambient background loops

Strong UI themes

Distinctive logos and iconography

This means mod creators wouldn’t need to invent new assets — they can adapt existing ones.

What I’m suggesting
A mod (or two separate mods) that includes:

Observer System Redux Mod
Chiron‑style glitch shaders

Opera GX logo → Chiron glitch animation

Room 212 ambience loop

Observer terminal keyboard sounds

Observer terminal cursor

Distortion overlays inspired by the game’s neural scanning UI

SOMA Mod
Underwater shader effect

Opera GX logo → underwater or WAU‑corrupted variant

SOMA terminal beeps

SOMA cursor animations

Ambient underwater loop

Organic distortion overlays inspired by WAU

Why I’m posting this
These two games have some of the strongest terminal aesthetics in modern sci‑fi/horror, and Opera GX’s modding system is capable of replicating them. It feels like a missed opportunity that no one has created these mods yet.

I’m hoping creators who enjoy game‑themed mods might be interested in taking this on.

Thanks for reading!
