Welcome to the SPZ Ecosystem: Let's Build the Open Road for 3D Data Together
Welcome.
If you've ever tried to put a detailed 3D Gaussian Splatting scene on the web, you might know the struggle: wrestling with huge datasets, figuring out compression, ensuring fast loading on any device, and verifying your files are complete and trustworthy. Not long ago, solving this required deep expertise and custom tools.
We've been there too. While building tools and participating in standards discussions, a clear truth emerged: true innovation is often buried under complex toolchains and closed formats. The most advanced 3D graphics technology shouldn't be confined to lab demos or become the proprietary asset of a few companies. It should be a public resource—accessible and usable by any developer, artist, or researcher.
That's why the SPZ Ecosystem exists. We're not here to build the "best" private tool. We're here to build a public road—an open pathway based on open standards (like Khronos glTF) that anyone can travel, and that we all maintain together.
"spz2glb" and
"spz_gatekeeper"—are the initial pavement, road signs, and inspection stations. They ensure data travels efficiently, losslessly, and reliably to its destination.
But a road's true value lies not just in its foundation, but in all the possibilities it connects.
Where should this road lead? What bridges and service areas are needed along the way? How can we make its maintenance rules clearer and fairer?
This new Discussions forum is our shared space to answer these questions. It's our community's "town square," for:
"spz_gatekeeper". Discussing how to encode our ecosystem's consensus and trust in code.
We believe the deepest value of technology isn't in its complexity, but in its potential for universal, simple, and reliable use. Making complex things simple, closed things open, and isolated things connected—this is what we mean by "creating public value."
This is more than a project. It's an invitation to think, design, and build the common foundation that should exist for everyone.
If you also believe that:
Then this is the starting point. You can begin by replying to this post, sharing your thoughts, questions, or vision for this ecosystem.
We're excited to begin this journey with you.
Sincerely,
The SPZ Ecosystem Initiator
