Dedicated release branch for releases

Overview

Starting this discussion to devise a branch strategy for releases, since monkeys is released the main branch will see a lot of changes. It will be better if we create a release branch which will serve these purpose:

• Maintain release versions and release notes
• Allowing reverts and hotfixes

Rules (TBD)

To maintain branch integrity, I propose the following rules

• release will be a protected branch`
• Only main and hotfix branches can push to release.
• A commit to release will happen when the repo owner creates a new release.
• Hotfixes shall be short, if a change is required then the current release shall be reverted and a new release should be planned.
