Unable to debug .exe generated by pyinstaller.

Am I missing something on bootstrap?

If I remove the 'debugpy' code, things run fine.
What's missing?

That's most probably because debugpy vendors in pydevd (as can be seen in the error logs) and that it used to clash with the module loaded by PyCharm (as it also has its own pydevd loaded, causing issues).
As a result, to prevent an exception in general, I'm removing pydev* from sys.modules at the start of the execution, here: https://github.com/overfl0/IDAPython-pycharm-setup/blob/master/pycharm_wrapper.py#L41

This solution is quite brittle, as you can see but that was the only solution that I found at the time, to have it working at all.
If you have a better solution that would work with current PyCharm releases (as I admit that I have had my old setup at work and haven't been keeping with the updates, lately), I'm willing to incorporate some changes to the script.

Although, to be honest, I'm having trouble understanding what is connected to what, in your case and where the the Pyinstaller executable actually is in this whole scenario. What is the binary that you have open in IDA? It's not that PyIntaller-generated exe, is it? Because I would think that the pycharm scripts shouldn't impact the analyzed binary.
If it's somewhere in your "IDA scripts", I don't really see how you would put a PyInstaller exe there, instead of a bunch of py files, at first glance, so that looks like nonstandard setup to me.

Anyway, the clash with pydevd is unfortunate and the current solution is cursed - I'm aware of that.

Yes, it is a pyInstaller generated exe. I wanted to have it include pydebug w/ symbol info embedded so I could debug it on launch with VS IDE on Windows .

Not using pyCharm for anything.

Do I you know if it is possible to debug the exe in this fashion? Or must I use a dissassembler?
