30FPS lock

Hi,

I don't know why, but my game is working at 30FPS, even when FPS counter shows 120FPS. Game is laggy, framepacing is bad. I saw YT video where everything was smooth.

Windows 11, RTX 5080.

I've tried:
vsync = true
video_mode_refresh_rate = 60.0

Still works the same.

"MaxFPS" "0"
to the autoexec.cfg in the Asset folder.

The game is still running Lithtech, so this works

I am on a 12700K 4080. I am using the nvidia frame rate counter ALT+R, it says 144fps and 50-70% GPU usage. As for the sparkles, I tried to do some screen capture but it doesn't show very well. I will try a bit more later.

Add "MaxFPS" "0" to the autoexec.cfg in the Asset folder.

Weird, didnt do a thorough test, but the "fovY "75" did work aswell I think. I would think the FPScap trick should work too.

It does. The autoexec works so long as options are typed in correctly and thank you I was able to bump up the FovY to 90 until that's made more native. I tried "MaxFPS" "10" and things slowed to the smoothest crawl possible (quite trippy), bumped up to 30 and it was back to being functional, then 48 to 60, before topping out at 120 because of the toml 120 default. The most visible smoothness differences started to become less perceptible from 48 onward, because, compared to the first Condemned, this is considerably more "consoleified" still, so, for right now, that is pretty inescapable.

I also tested mouse response at 10fps and it is night & day better. If only it were less visually queasy, heh.

I added them like this to the autoexec but because of the toml, I dunno exactly whether or not the SRR stabilizes anything more than what the toml already adds.

I did have to turn down the resolution scale to 1 though because yeesh the performance dives off a cliff at just 2 currently.

Sadly anything beyond 30 FPS is not working for me. Same file on Xenia Canary is perfectly fine.

General performance won't be the same for everyone, I acknowledge that. But, if someone is throwing out engine-related tweaks that are supposed to improve or fix anything, the best way to prove or disprove it is testing. Best test is starting with the most extreme example (10 fps) so you can see if it is indeed doing anything. And 90 FoV effects the screen view significantly more than just slightly bumping from the claustrophobic default.

Also, like I said, this recomp is not even quite stably vanilla plus yet, but, it seems to be quite quickly on its way. Even with the drastic fps reduction helping mouse movement, it by nature of its current playability just still feels like a console development build that's playable on PC. With more engine improvement love and care that will undoubtedly change.

Something else worth mentioning is that there was a bug in RexGlue-SDK in which SDL was preventing Windows from using a high resolution timer, causing Sleep events to last longer. This would hammer performance on the Windows build. While I forked the SDK and added a workaround, this was resolved and it is no longer necessary. Commit of the bugfix.

I'll likely include the workaround anyways in the Condemned 2 build alone.

10FPS limit is working fine, but 30FPS+ not. Game is using 15-20% of my CPU and GPU and performance is terrible (with insane frame pacing). I don't know why, I will wait for proper fix.

Best you can do for yourself and I hope things improve for you. But psx is making something that already seems like it will be the definitive play experience before the year is over and may even surpass the original Condemned's pc release and that already has enough of a console-feel frustration to it at times.

And just like that, you've already proven that your build should continue to be taken seriously for anyone who has wanted to play Bloodshot on PC for years.
