Saving data into csv

Hi, I would like to ask if there's a way to save data from the RotaryEncoderModule from pybpod_rotaryencoder_module.module_api into a csv file? Like that of a the GUI plug-in? Or is there a way I could retrieve data saved? I.e. where do I get the output from m.get_logged_data()? Thanks!

Hi,

The data you are looking for is returned by the m.get_logged_data() method that you mention.

If you don't currently have a reference for the module, you can get it by using the modules property on your BPod object and find it by its name.

Let me know if you were able to get the data.

Hi, I'm not sure if I have done what you meant. But what I did was followed the instructions and had these lines:

from pybpod_rotaryencoder_module.module_api import RotaryEncoderModule

m = RotaryEncoderModule('/dev/ttyACM1')

m.start_logging()

m.enable_stream()

However, I'm still not getting it. I would like to ask if you'd mind elaborating what you meant? Thank you!

I could be wrong and I would have to confirm by testing with a device, but I think that if you enable the stream through the usb port, you won't get data saved on the SD card at the same time. I will only be able to confirm that at the end of the week since I currently don't have a device with me.

In the meantime, can you try enable_logging, then actively wait in the code while you do some movements, and then disable_logging. Afterwards, call get_logged_data to verify if you have access to the data.

If you need to get that data also in real time, use the enable_stream method and use the read_stream method to gather the information.

I was able to see the data streaming in terminal, but it is not loaded into the SD card. Moreover, could I ask a side question? Is Pybpod only written for BPodr2? Would it also work for generation 1? Thank you for your help again!

I made a couple of tests and from what I was able to gather from the Rotary Encoder firmware's code, the microSD data file is saved when you make a call to enable_logging() and stops saving when disable_logging() is called, as expected. Now the strange thing that happens is that as soon as you make a call to get_logged_data() that data is returned to you AND deleted from the SD card, which makes any subsequent calls getting an empty list returned.

I wasn't able to get the SD card and read it directly on the computer and also, as soon as I disconnect and connect the rotary encoder, the data is deleted from the SD card (it's the first thing done by the device's firmware).

This worked also while streaming the data, and according to the firmware's code, there is nothing that prevents to have both situations running simultaneously, contrary to what I believed that the device works.

Another note is that, from the tests I did, with only 10 seconds of saved data, the call to get_logged_data() takes some time to return the complete set of data.

Not sure what to test further, but it doesn't really seem an issue with the PyBpod's plugin for the Rotary Encoder but how the device works by default.
