Unfortunately, there is currently no nice way of doing this. I have a local patch where upon full regeneration it saves the completion_data to a file allowing for faster rebuilds afterwards if I am testing changes to templates/css.

Couldn’t the code at least detect if clones/devguide (etc) exists and switch between clone repo / update repo depending on presence?

That's long postponed behaviour, addressed in #153.
