toile - Pronounced twaal. An early version of a finished garment made up in cheap material so that the design can be tested and perfected.

muslin - Pretty much the same as toile.

Just kidding, I don't really have a preference. I like toile, but I'm afraid it is going to be too esoteric and people will end up pronouncing it "toil".

I think toile is out. Too hard to pronounce and too close to toilet.

seam based names seem pretty popular: seamulator, seamulation, etc.

I'd also like to propose notion, which is a general term for any small accessories and tools used in sewing.
