Clarification request: Dataset license for YeaZ images and annotations #41

Hello,

First, thank you for making YeaZ available to the community.

While reviewing datasets used to train pretrained microscopy segmentation models (including Cellpose models that reference the YeaZ phase-contrast and brightfield datasets), I was trying to identify the license associated with the YeaZ dataset.

I was able to find the publication, dataset description, and software repository, but I could not find a clearly stated license for the dataset itself (images and annotations).

Could you please clarify:

  • Under which license is the YeaZ dataset distributed?
  • Is there a recommended dataset page that explicitly states the license?

The reason for asking is that there is growing interest in documenting model provenance (datasets, licenses, and pretrained models) within the bioimage-analysis community. Having a clearly stated dataset license helps users understand how the dataset should be used, cited, and redistributed.

This question also arose during a broader community discussion on pretrained model provenance and licensing transparency:

Thank you for any clarification.
