Problems with loading plugins

Carla doesn't recognized at all as an lv2 plugin.

When loaded as a vst plugin, its window is empty (loaded within qtractor that is).

Same with the Calf lv2 plugins, their UI is blank, and unresponsive.

Patching the qtractor with Carla (on its own app, not as a plugin) for midi (master of qtractor to midi-in of carla), causes carla to crash.

Overall, I was trying to find ways to use these Calf plugins with qtractor, but neither alone, or via Carla makes them work. In one case they fail on their own, and on the other one, Carla fails. I need to use plugins to make qtractor useful...

Calf plugins only work iif you run a qtractor build/compiled with Gtk2 toolkit support; and for that you'll also need to run on a native distro packaging, or build from source--the AppImage won't do it, if at all; incidentally the later is one case that does suffer from the "blank window" problem and it won't get fixed anyhow, mostly because gtk2 support is now generally considered deprecated, if not dead, so sorry.

ps. for the rescue please try from one of the repos. or specially the OBS packaging

Thank you for the explanation, appreciated. Unfortunately though, that doesn't explain why Carla was also empty-windowed. I don't think Carla is also gtk2?

I tried installed the ubuntu 24.04, 22.04, and debian 12 deb packages from your suse repo, for my Linux mint (which is based on ubuntu 24.04). Unfortunately, each time the same dependency was not met: librubberband3. These ubuntu/debian repos only have librubberband2, not 3. So I don't understand how you were able to compile these debs for these distros using the version 3... So, yeah, couldn't install them.

librubberband3 may also be found in the OBS repos...

if you're on Linux Mint maybe you better off with the ppa's? Applications (noble) and Libraries (noble) might be a good choice then.

Thank you, but your librubberband4 is having librubberband3 as dependency too, so it won't install (because librubberband3 doesn't exist in the ubuntu repos)!

Carla is way far from a self-contained plugin so leave all hope to it ever work reliably on an appimage, if at all (I doubt it works fine on a flatpak, did you try that also?)

there is no librubberband4 whatsoever, what are you really trying to install ? please uninstall all what you've done and go with the ppa's (apps and libs, see above)

I tried to install the ubuntu 24.04 .deb file from the page you sent me to: https://software.opensuse.org//download.html?project=home:rncbc:libs&package=rubberband
Over there, I see a librubberband 4 file to download, not 3. And when I try to install it, it says that there are unmet deps with librubberband3.

I don't want to add the repository, this will mess up my apt files, because thats the not the new way anymore to add repos on debian/ubuntu.

not relying on (my) ppa's is understandable of course but in the end it's your call--it could just solve all this mess/case from the start and for the future ;)

Thank you, it now works. I was able to install the version of qtractor you offer on your repo (installed librubberband 3, 4, and qtractor -- I kept the rest of the files as per ubuntu repo).

So, now the Calf plugins load properly, thank you.

There is a problem with Carla still though. While now the window is not empty anymore, when loading the DeXed vst3 plugin via CarlaRack plugin on qtractor (when creating the midi track), the audio is crackling when is playing back the notes. However, on the window where I DRAW the notes, the audio is correct!! Only when I exit that window, to be in the track main view, and press play, the audio is all cracked.

The same setup (carlarack + dexed) works on lmms btw, so I wonder if the bug is on qtractor.

please try loading dexed vst3 directly in qtractor and not in carla(rack) as subhost.

Yes, I can load DeXed without issues directly. But I'd like this bug to be fixed, because Carla can be useful for other things, and I need to know that it works perectly. Given that the audio is fine within the drawing notation window of qtractor, and on lmms, it means that there's a bug on qtractor's main window playback, that I'd like to see fixed. I need to be able to trust the system. Thx.
