Research Android nearby-device transport constraints #4

Description

@rufatixx

Goal

Produce a research note for one realistic Android nearby-device transport option without implementing or advertising a mesh network.

Questions

  • permissions and user consent across supported Android versions
  • discovery, connection, framing, and payload-size constraints
  • foreground-service and background-execution rules
  • identity binding and abuse controls
  • cancellation, retries, power use, and device lifecycle
  • emulator limitations and the minimum real-device test matrix

Acceptance criteria

  • Sources are linked to current official Android documentation.
  • Product-policy constraints are separated from protocol design.
  • The note recommends a narrow proof-of-concept scope.
  • No Bluetooth, Wi-Fi Direct, or mesh capability is claimed as implemented.
