Generate valid file path from client without downloading the entire file

Is it possible to directly access the file without downloading it entirely? I am hosting very large tiled tiff files and I only want to read sections of it. With normal Windows folders this is possible.

I don't think that the WebDAV protocol allows accessing/downloading parts of files...

I tried the Windows feature "Map network drive..." and had the same "entire file downloading" problem. Wondrous I was able to read sections of the file with the NetDrive's Webdav feature. But I have to explicit choose the "local drive" and not the "network drive" feature
