Welcome to the eda-agent Discussions. Short guide to which room to use:

Q&A

Anything of the form "how do I ...", "why does my ... timeout", "is it possible to ...". Prefer Q&A over Issues unless you've confirmed a reproducible bug — the answer is often a missing step rather than a defect.

Show and tell

Prompts, workflows, scripts, or AI sessions that produced something useful. Screenshots, before/after design snapshots, benchmark numbers — all welcome. This is where the project gets its best example material.

Ideas

New tool proposals, tool surface changes, UX improvements. If the idea is concrete and bounded, open a GitHub Issue instead; Discussions → Ideas is for things that still need shaping.

Announcements

Release notes, breaking changes, planned downtime. Read-only for non-maintainers.

General

Anything that doesn't fit the above — project direction, Altium API discoveries, AI/MCP ecosystem chat.

Bug reports

Don't post bug reports here. Open a GitHub Issue with:

• Altium version / build (Help → About in Altium)
• eda-agent version (eda-agent --version or ping_altium output)
• The exact MCP tool call that failed
• The Altium error dialog text if any
• Contents of %USERPROFILE%\EDA Agent\workspace\activity.log and bridge_trace.log around the failure

Altium version compatibility

Share what works and what doesn't on your Altium build. A short post along the lines of "AD24.9 on Win11: all tools work except pcb_place_region (DRC dialog opens)" is genuinely useful — there's no public matrix otherwise.

Reminder on privacy

The AI can see your entire live schematic and PCB. Before pasting logs or screenshots here, strip project-specific IP (net names you'd treat as confidential, component footprints from unreleased products, etc.). The project is community-driven; nothing you post becomes less public over time.

What is the roadmap for this product ? How is it tested ?

There is no formal public roadmap for this tool (I wouldn't call it a product). This started primarily as a side-project with the main goal of making it possible for an LLM to query and understand fully a Schematic/PCB design in Altium such that the LLM can then use that information for AI assisted design review tasks, AI assisted design documentation and similar uses. I believe this goal has been fully achieved and I've been using this tool successfully for these purposes in my electronics design business for many months now.

Beyond that primary goal, the next obvious target is to extended this tool also to design authoring tasks or at least design sub-task automation. There is no formal roadmap on this but already many authoring features have been included, for example library editing, part/document parameter editing, board outline generation, part placement, net-label placement, design-rules, and many other tools are already useable.

Technically the tool is also at a point where you can ask the LLM to design a circuit for you and the LLM through eda-agent can already do it, including creating schematic symbols, drawing the schematic and the PCB. However there is still a long way to go until it is really possible to do an end-to-end LLM driven design through eda-agent. Honestly I'm not sure if this will ever be possible. This is mostly an exploratory / experimental phase which includes also navigating the limitations of Altium's automation API.
