Let's prepare our website for a future cookie banner. This would allow us to introduce additional user tracking techniques. One example is leadinfo what we've currently integrated. They provide a cookie for advanced options which is currently disabled. In order to enable it we would need to ask for permission.

Task:

1. Search for a cookie consent framework/approach (like Osano Cookie Consent, Cookiebot and such)
2. How to integrate leadinfo without cookies (default) and how to optionally enable cookies if needed

My notes are shown below:

- Search for a cookie consent framework/approach (like Osano Cookie Consent, Cookiebot and such)

While selecting framework, we should consider:

• Price?
• User friendliness?
• How many domain and sub-pages we have?
• What features we’d like to see?
• Which parts of the world our visitors come from?
• Other requirements?

I believe we’re looking for:

• Location -> Germany
• Compliance -> Needs GDPR essential, would be useful if the cookie consent tool can automatically adjust the language based on user’s location (not essential)
• Tracking and analytics -> Would like to see where visitors are coming from (might be useful if support natively or allow integrations)
• Budget -> Free option if possible
• Domain -> Probably one domain / supporting multiple domains wouldn’t be necessary
• Ease of implementation/user friendliness -> easy to integrate without heavy customization

Best Options might be or CookieBot(easy to implement):

Quancast

• Simple solution
• Meets GDPR and CCPA standards and also TCF 2.0 compliant
• Tracking -> has admin portal where you can monitor consent rates, it may not natively offer but it can integrate easily with Google Analytics - If we don’t want to do it we can think about using OneTrust but though its pricing structure may become confusing as you scale.
• Free option
• It doesn’t automatically change the language based on user’s location, if we don’t expect high number of non-German visitiors
• Ease of use -> clear and easy to use, with quickintegrations across and entire domain

Cookiebot:

• Meets GDPR, CCPA and ePrivacy which is making great choice for European market
• Tracking -> not has extensive admin portal like Quancast, offer features like blocking cookies until user consent is obtained and integrates well with analytics tools
• Free option -> might be plan or trial for smaller websites
• Language support -> Adjusts automatically visitor’s language
• Ease of use

Another Option can be considered:

OneTrust:

• Meets GDPR,CCPA and several international privacy regulations
• Tracking -> Offers admin portal, helful for event tracaking and monitoring
• Free option -> Offers a free version for one domain
• Language support -> Supports multiple languages, can display banner visitor’s language.
• Ease of Use -> customizable templates -> pricing may be confusing

Not ideal options:

• Osana -> Meets GDPR & highly popular but expensive and overkill for our consultancy with one domain.
• Lubenda -> Visually appealing, offers compliance with regulations but pricing structure can be unclear.

2- How to integrate leadinfo without cookies (default)

I tested disableCookies functionality by adding to the existing Leadinfo script:

leadinfo('disableCookies', true);

It seems working as expected -> we’re able to see ping.js and no cookies on the inspector.

How to optionally enable cookies if needed?

Cookie name:

_li_id
_li_ses

Simply added react-cookie-consent library for testing purpose and if the user accepts cookies we’re adding to _li_id to the cookies section.
