Concept of Simulating TEM Sample Stand

As a beginner in TEM and crystallography, ReciPro has been incredibly helpful. I sincerely appreciate your efforts.

For TEM novices, tilting to a specific zone axis can be quite challenging, especially with nanocrystals, where it becomes even more difficult.

Would you be interested in adding a feature to ReciPro that simulates TEM sample holder tilting?

Here is my idea: First, I align a zone axis in TEM, obtain a diffraction pattern, and determine the zone axis information [A, A, A], crystallographic plane details, and the current α and β tilt angles. Then, using ReciPro, I would like to simulate the required α and β tilt angles to transition from [A, A, A] to another zone axis [x, x, x], as well as the neighboring zone axes around [A, A, A] and the corresponding α and β tilt angles needed.

I hope my explanation is clear. I welcome any discussion on this topic.

Dr. Seto, could you consider adding a color option to Stereographic Projection - Indices - Specified Indices? It would be helpful if different Indices (Equivalent Indices) could be displayed in different colors. Thank you.

I have added a feature to the “Diffraction Simulator” that simulates the tilt of the TEM holder.

Usage is simple.

1. First, simulate the electron diffraction pattern you observed with TEM using the “Diffraction Simulator”.
2. Press the “TEM holder simulation” button.
3. Enter the tilt angles (Tilt X, Y) of the TEM holder.

Please note that the directions of the TEM holder's tilt axes relative to the electron diffraction pattern are specific to the TEM instrument. The default value is set to 29°, which corresponds to the conditions for the JEOL 200 kV TEM that I frequently use. Your TEM may be a different model, so please adjust the angle value accordingly.

I've also added a feature to color-code equivalent axes/planes in the "Stereonet" function. Give it a try.

I used it all day today and it's very useful! There is a small issue that Stereonet cannot remove after adding the crystal band axis. Thank you.
