Just reporting an observation that the space between the last foot note and the first cross reference changes slightly when an option is changed.

This image shows the setting change which was to enable 'Start Each Footnote on a New Line' (not selected before).
The output now becomes:
If you look carefully, the gap between the footnote and the cross reference is now slightly smaller. I noticed this because this reduction meant that there was now enough space to bring in an extra line of text.
