The Kaitai format does most of what I want, in being able to declare binary formats and convert them into various language implementations.
It would also serve as a useful base for a format documentation drive; as it would be relatively simple to generate documentation containing annotated sample files and snippets; which would aid the wider Embroider hacking community to be able to support new and old formats.
