I'm Maik, a software developer from Leipzig with 30+ years of backend experience — and a 1989 motorboat that needed a digital upgrade.

What started as 'I just want to see my oil temperature' turned into a full marine electronics ecosystem:
BoatOS — a complete marine OS for Raspberry Pi with offline navigation, AIS, sensor monitoring, logbook and Signal K support.
BoatOpenIO — a 16-channel analog input gateway that connects legacy VDO sensors to modern systems via MQTT and Signal K. No sensor replacement needed.
Everything is 100% open source, documented with all the failures included — no polished tutorials, just honest engineering.
